Boys held for gang-raping girl, 16 (South Africa)

Johannesburg – Six boys have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a 16-year-old girl in Letsitele, outside Tzaneen in Limpopo, police said on Sunday.

“It is alleged that on Saturday 30 June 2012 at around 18:30 the minor was being accompanied home by a male friend when they were joined by five other friends,” said Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

“She was allegedly dragged into an empty house, held down were the six boys, all minors, between the ages of 15 and 17 took turns raping her from 19:00 until 04:00 yesterday [Sunday] morning.”

The girl managed to escape through a broken window and alerted a passer-by, who contacted police.

Following a search, five of the six boys were arrested. The sixth boy was arrested after 18:00 on Sunday.

“[The] police investigation revealed that the perpetrators were seen consuming alcohol at one of the well known establishments in Ngwamitwa (Letsitele),” said Mulaudzi.

The six boys were expected to appear in Ritavi Magistrate’s Court soon.
