DUBAI // A man who forced his sister-in-law into prostitution after her husband sent her to Dubai to find work was sentenced to two years in prison to be followed by deportation.

The 29-year-old defendant, MSA picked up his brother’s wife, RM, a 23-year-old from Pakistan, from the airport and instead of helping her find a job, forced her to prostitute herself.

She said in court records that she married her husband against his family’s wishes.

MSA denied the charge of human trafficking at the Dubai Criminal Court in February. RM’s husband, who is still in Pakistan, was sentenced in absentia to two years and deportation in a similar charge.

RM said she was forced to have sex with men in Dubai and Sharjah and that when she refused she would be beaten. She told prosecutors MSA also forced other women into prostitution.

When RM’s visit visa expired she claimed a third man, AAm, 42, from Bangladesh, obtained a work visa for her. AA also received a two-year jail term to be followed by deportation.

It was unclear how the case came to the attention of police.
