In a shocking incident, a man on Tuesday killed his wife and a  two-and-half-year-old daughter by torching his house sprinkling kerosene over the thatch at Bhagabanpur village under Sorada police station limits in Ganjam district. The person was arrested by the local police.

The person was identified as Kandha Mahankud (31) who was married to Sunita of his village four years back and had a two-and-half-year-old daughter, Smruti. Initially they had a blissful life but after months of marriage their relation became critical. Prior to the incident, the couple had some hot exchanges, Mahankud has confessed.

Three days back, Mahankud and his wife had an argument over money matter. He could not bear his wife’s words and planned to kill her. Alcoholic Mahankud locked the house and torched it by sprinkling kerosene in the early morning on Tuesday. When some villagers saw him running away while his house was on blaze, they caught hold of him and immediately rushed to the spot. But they could not save the mother and daughter.

The villagers handed him over to the local police. Local tehsildar Bedavar Pradhan and Inspector-In-Charge Bijay Kumar rushed to the spot to take stock of the situation.
