Bhiwandi: Family of seven face dowry harassment case (India)

Thane, Aug 1 (PTI) Seven members of a family, based in nearby Bhiwandi, are facing a criminal case for allegedly harassing a newly-married woman for dowry. Sub-Inspector S B Khamkar of Nizampura police station said that the victim Tasnima Mukhtar Ansari, 25, was married to Mukthar Sayyed Ansari, 28, and the couple lived in the Shanti Nagar locality. It was a love marriage, and was registered in the court. The complaint by Tasnima said that her in-laws started harassing her for dowry from January, demanding Rs 2 lakh for buying an auto rickshaw for the husband. As she was unable to meet the demand, she was locked in the house and starved, and beaten on some occasions, she said. No arrest had been made yet.
